If you are looking for somewhere to eat in Barcelona, but want something traditional, then look no further than El Xampanyet. Situated in the El Born district, this tapas bar dates back to 1929 and is a fabulous example of a blast from the past. This is not the place to go to if you want a quiet intimate meal; the atmosphere is loud, and it can get crowded, which all points to its popularity! Order a mixed platter of tapas and you will be wowed with some delicious examples of what Catalan has to offer: patatas bravas, spicy meatballs, marinated salmon, omelettes, delicious seafood, cheeses… the list goes on.

El Xampanyet is open Tuesday to Saturday from 12 noon until 4.00 pm, and then from 7.00 pm until 11.30 pm, and Sundays from 12 noon until 4.00 pm, and prices are 20€ to 30€. It isn’t possible to book, so unless you get there early, be prepared to wait – but you can still soak up that Spanish ambience!
